Svatý Hostýn*

Svatý Hostýn is a place of pilgrimage with a Baroque church consecrated to the Virgin Mary. According to legend, the Virgin saved the local region from raids by Tatar troops in the 13th century. It is the most visited pilgrimage site in Moravia and, after Velehrad, also the most memorable. For three centuries the Hostýn mountain (735 m, 2.411 ft) with its Marian shrine (Basilica minor) has been a destination for thousands of pilgrims who come seeking a refuge here from their life's sorrows and needs.
