The Zoological garden was founded in 1953 on the famous pilgrimage site of Svatý kopeček near Olomouc. The ZOO has a display of marine aquariums with various species of fish and chondrichthyans. There is a giant shark aquarium (42 m3 / 11.000 gallons), the tank of which is 9 meters (30 ft) long, 1.5 meters (5 ft) deep and 3.5 meters (12 ft) wide. The Olomouc ZOO also boasts a unique coral fish collection. The Zoological Garden in Olomouc extends to a large, mixed forest area of nearly 43 hectares (110 acres) and contains over 250 species of animals.
