Introduction » Attractions » Archiepiscopal wine cellers Kroměříž *
The Cellers are part of the Archiepiscopal Chateau in Kroměříž. They are located underground at a depth of 6.5m(21 ft). Their floor area is 1030 m2 (11.100 sq.ft) and they are divided into upper and lower cellers. The basement has a year-round constant temperature between 9°C to 11°C (48 - 51°F). It is a suitable environment for the production of pure, natural, fine sacramental wines. Wine production in the area has a centuries-old tradition spanning 735 years. The cellers have preserved the oldest parts of the castle's Gothic brickwork from the 13th century. The walls are covered with a coating of noble mold. Wine is aged in historical wooden casks of various sizes. The largest barrels hold 19,100 liters and the oldest barrel was manufactured in 1805.
We are happy to arrange tours of the cellers complete with guides in historical costumes, a tasting of the sacramental wines, with music and catering upon request.
